Forty years after the Via Carini massacre (September 3, 1982), the series tells the story of the Special Anti-Terrorist Unit created by General Carlo Alberto dalla Chiesa -- played by Sergio Castellitto -- to combat the Red Brigades' attack on the state in what was a real war to defend democracy. On one side was the General and a select group of young undercover carabinieri, trained in innovative investigative methods for the time, and on the other side were the equally young members of the Red Brigade, who were cultivating the goal of subverting the democratic state through kidnappings, assassinations, and bombings.
