Jakob Oftebro (1864) stars as the Swedish superspy in a new ten-part series inspired by the novels of author and journalist Jan Guillou, centering around the exploits of fictional superspy/nobleman/all-around badass Carl Gustaf Gilbert Hamilton.

Author Guillou’s own espionage background provided the basis for his first Hamilton novel, published in 1986; eleven more Hamilton novels followed over the next two decades. Hamilton first made the jump to TV in 1990, in the eight-part series Enemy’s Enemy starring Peter Haber (Beck) as Hamilton. More series and actors followed over the years, most recently Mikael Persbrandt’s turn in the 2012 double-feature In the Interest of the Nation and But Not If It Concerns Your Daughter. In the new series, Oftebro (the first Norwegian actor to play the Swedish agent) is joined by Krister Henriksson (Wallander), co-starring as Hamilton’s boss DG aka The Old Man. Interestingly, Henriksson appeared opposite Peter Haber’s Hamilton in Enemy’s Enemy way back in 1990 – which also featured a cameo by Mikael Persbrandt at the very end! Yes, we’re all old! (Except for Oftebro – he was four at the time.)
