A German police investigator assigned to his country’s embassy in Algiers leads an illicit love affair with an Algerian prosecutor. The kidnapping of a German arms dealer puts them in direct conflict as each are assigned to investigate the case for their respective countries. As the pair dig deeper, they uncover a corruption scandal that will test their loyalty, both to their nations and, ultimately, to each other.
Based on Oliver Bottini’s novel “Ein paar Tage Licht” with a screenplay by Abdel Raouf Dafri, whose credits include the acclaimed A Prophet (2009), and directed by longtime Spiral helmer Frédéric Jardin, Algiers Confidential is a taut, tense thriller that never loses sight of its characters, taking viewers into a world where the misguided idealism of one generation comes crashing against the compromises of another.
