Settle in during the brief twilight with these shows!

On April 8, 2024, millions of people in North America will be able to view a total solar eclipse (cue Bonnie Tyler). This phenomenon happens when the moon passes between the sun and the Earth, blocking out sunlight for those along a particular path, known as the path of totality. But even those outside this path will get a partial eclipse that will still darken the sky, create strange shadows, and may even cause street lights to flicker and birds to behave erratically. In other words, it’ll be a beautifully eerie experience. What better way to celebrate the total eclipse than to pair it with some equally eerie entertainment? We have the perfect watchlist of dark tales for your Total Eclipse Viewing Party.

Pagan Peak

NORDIC NOIR | GERMANY | GERMAN WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES

Speaking of those remakes, Pagan Peak is the Austrian-German counterpart to The Bridge , but with a new twist. Like The Bridge, the series opens with the discovery of a body along the border, but this one’s been forced into a strange pose and staged to look like a ritual. Set in the dark depths of the Alpine wilderness, the series follows two detectives, one Austrian and one German, who investigate a string of similar ritual-like murders inspired by the Christmas legend of Krampus. Soon they discover that while the woods might be dark, they’re nothing compared to the inside of the Krampus Killer’s mind.

Arctic Circle

CRIME DRAMA | FINLAND | FINNISH WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES

Soon officers realize that she is infected with a highly contagious and deadly virus, raising the stakes to an unfathomably degree. The series follows officer Nina Kautsalo and virologist Thomas Lorenz as they track an active serial killer while also trying to contain the virus before it becomes a full-blown pandemic. If murder and deadly viruses don’t chill you, then the vast, snow-covered landscape of Finland’s icy Lapland certainly will.
