Charlotte Link is one of Germany’s best-known crime novelists. Though written in her native German, Link’s psychological detective novels are heavily inspired by English crime fiction and are set in the UK – as are these German TV adaptations.
In the first movie, ‘Cheated’ – based on Link’s 2015 novel “Die Betrogene” – Scotland Yard detective Kate Linville returns to her hometown of Scarborough following the murder of her policeman father. Unimpressed by police progress on the case, she finds herself drawn into the investigation. Kate believes Caleb Hale – a former colleague of her father’s and head of investigations – to be responsible for his death, and begins to make inquiries. Spurred by her action, Hale tracks down a possible suspect and prepares to apprehend him – but is he too late?
The next two films in the trilogy are ‘In the Valley of the Fox’, in which a tragic twist changes the lives of three couples forever, and ‘The Decision’, in which a man’s spontaneous decision to help a stranger embroils him in a murder plot.
