Get ready for a trilogy of dark and gritty police thrillers! Fabel premieres May 21st!

Based on the international bestsellers by Scottish author Craig Russell, the trilogy kicks off with “Murder Is No Fairy Tale” – based on Russell’s novel Brother Grimm. The body of a girl is found near the Elbe River in Hamburg with a message for the police concealed in her hand, and homicide detective Jan Fabel is entrusted with the case. Though still psychologically fragile after a recent, catastrophic police operation, he’s been judged fit to return to duty by the police psychologist, who also happens to be his current girlfriend. For Fabel, the note in the victim’s hand is not only a mystery but also a hint that this could be the beginning of a serial killer’s spree. Sure enough, a couple is later found murdered, again with a message that Fabel now realizes is drawn from the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm. But since there seems to be no link between the victims, Fabel and his team are stumped – and the killer continues enacting his deadly fantasies…

Fabel premieres on May 21st – only on MHz Choice!

Cast

Jan Fabel
Chief inspector of the Hamburg Homicide Squad. Half-Scottish on his mother’s side, Jan Fabel is a divorced father of one who trained as a historian before joining the police. Often acting as a loose cannon, Fabel is nonetheless universally regarded as a good man, even by criminals. He’s a demanding boss, but pushes himself even harder than he does his team.

Maria Klee
Fabel’s deputy in the Hamburg Homicide Squad, Maria is a straight-shooting (literally) no-nonsense lieutenant who takes her job as seriously as Fabel takes his. She used to be in a relationship with her boss, too, but that ended in an (also literal) bang – and both cops needed time to recover after that. But their working relationship remains rock solid to this day.

Henk Hermann
A third generation policeman from Norderstedt, Henk first encounters Fabel in the course of the fairy tale murders investigation. He is soon recruited into Fabel’s team and proves to be a valuable member of the group. A former national motocross champion, Henk also has a tendency to get emotional – and to become attached to people – a natural extension of his empathetic personality.

Dr. Susanne Eckhardt
The staff psychologist with the Hamburg PD, Susanne is often called in to consult on the often-times bizarre personality types encountered in the course of Fabel’s murder investigations. She’s also in a relationship with Jan, and cares about him very deeply. This, of course, is completely against department rules and as professionals they should really know better. But they’re great together.

Anna Wolff
The newest member of Fabel’s team, Anna’s first day with the Hamburg Homicide Squad coincides with the start of the blood eagle murder investigation – a baptism of fire, for sure. As headstrong as her new boss, Anna throws herself into police work and turns out to be a good undercover operative as well. She gives as good as she gets, and has a sharp caustic relationship with Henk – who has a little crush on her!

Gabi Fabel
Fabel’s daughter, currently in a gap year from school. When we first encounter her, she has just returned from a trip with her friends to Morrocco – and seems to be a little surly. Later on, we find out she has a new boyfriend, and things take a turn for the worse. Despite her surliness, she loves her dad, who really is trying his best to be there for her.
