In Piégés*, a woman with a pressing financial need can get the windfall she needs if she agrees to kill a stranger.

Premiering September 1

What would you do if someone you didn’t know offered you a million euros… with one condition? What if you were in desperate straits?

The French word ‘piégés’ means ‘to trap.’ This two-part drama is dispassionately told but depicts raging emotions and furious, troubled people. It’s about a woman (Odile Vuillemin) considering violating her morality with the rationale that it could save a life within her family. It’s about the primal pull of familial connections and crawling back from the edge of evil.

Based on a British two-part 2011 television series called The Reckoning, Piégés is an enjoyable, thoughtful drama and felt to me like an extended, high-end Twilight Zone. As 2020 drags on, you may find it’s just the thing to provide a moment of escape.
