A spin-off of Le juge est une femme, a long-running series from the 1990s/2000s, Alice Nevers (Mediawan) stars Marine Delterme as the title character, a tough and tenacious criminal prosecutor in a professional – and later personal – partnership with police captain Fred Marquand (Jean-Michel Tinivelli, Murder In…). As the season begins, Alice is in a prison with her three-month-old son Paul, waiting to introduce the child to his father/her ex Mathieu, played by Alexandre Varga (Blood of the Vine).
This pregnancy plotline was mandated when star Delterme became pregnant in real life – it was written into the scripts, and Varga’s character Mathieu – Alice’s childhood sweetheart who fell foul of the law – from Le juge est une femme was retrofitted as the kid’s dad! (More on this unusual family set-up in future episodes/seasons…)
After these introductions, Alice returns from maternity leave to reunite with her partner Captain Marquand – and a fresh crime scene awaits them.
