Åre is a village in northern Sweden whose permanent population of 1,500 swells to over 60,000 in peak ski season. It is Scandinavia’s largest mountain resort, and a vacation destination as breathtakingly beautiful as it is dangerous. Keeping the locals and tourists safe is the job of a crack emergency services team – police, fire, mountain rescue and EMS – all working together, balancing their personal lives with the acts of everyday heroism that are all part of their job.
The series begins with the arrival of Zara (Nadja Halid), a young resident doctor who joins the medical clinic on the recommendation of its director, her long-time mentor. But their reunion is cut short by a paraglider crash in the woods – and this plus a subsequent high-speed car wreck make for an intense first day at the job. Character is the focus here, and Zara’s new team includes Norwegian ambulance nurse Sofia (Tiril Eeg-Henriksen), policewoman and devoted single mother Åsa (Karin Bengtsson), carpenter/mountain guide Tomas (Göran Gillinger), firefighter/bartender Markus (Mårten Svedberg) – and ace tracker dog Rim (woof!)
The series, co-created by Johan Falk producer Joakim Hansson, shares many of the same behind-the-scenes talent as that popular series, including production designer Dave Marshall, composer extraordinaire Bengt Nilsson and Falk mastermind Anders Nilsson, wearing his editor’s cap for this one.
