In French series Tandem, is it possible to solve crimes with your ex?

So do they hate each other or not? Are there embers beneath the vitriol?

Nothing is juicier than seeing a man and a woman spar, engaged in the love/hate dance. It’s a staple in literature – usually comedies. Think “Taming of the Shrew” or “Much Ado about Nothing” by Shakespeare, Jane Austin novels, so many Katherine Hepburn/Spencer Tracy movies… even vintage American TV shows like Moonlighting or Cheers.

In our new French series Tandem, exes Léa Soler (Astrid Veillon) and Paul Marchal (Stéphane Blancafort) square off with their fists raised every day, much to the chagrin of those around them. It’s every day because… they work together. Léa is the boss and holds the title ‘Commander’ and Paul is a rank below her, a police captain. She’s just tranferred to Montpellier for mysterious reasons and he has no intention of changing how he approaches the job just because she’s in town.

The latter point – Paul’s intractability and disinterest in following orders is unspeakably irritating to Léa. In this clip, she comes upon him working a case she told him to stay out of.

Adding to their conflict is the fact that they’re co-parenting two teenagers – who aren’t too thrilled about the sudden uprooting and move to Montpellier. Murder cases, battling exes, restless adolescents. Let the festivities begin!
