In acclaimed film noir A Dark, Dark Man starring Daniyar Alshinov, a series of murders exposes deep corruption in a remote Kazakh community. Mr. Alshinov plays the protagonist Bekzat, a young policeman who is already a jaded and cynical accomplice to the corruption all around him. His slow-motion awakening to confronting the corrupt system is inspired almost against his will by the sudden appearance of an outside journalist, Ariana (Dinara Baktybaeva). Bekzat’s pursuit of the real murderer is flawed and in his jagged zigzag towards justice, he encounters plenty of blood and wrongdoing along the way.
We recently had the great pleasure to sit down with the multi-talented Mr. Alshinov while in between shoots in Khazahstan. Daniyar shares his experiences about crafting his character for A Dark, Dark Man, his past life as a budding rocket scientist, as well as the explosion of films and series now being produced in Khazahstan.
