This latest season of Beck (Banijay Rights) consists of four feature-length episodes, reuniting us with Martin Beck (Peter Haber, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo), Alex Beijer (Jennie Silfverhjelm, The Girl Who Played With Fire), Josef Eriksson (Martin Wallström, Johan Falk), Oskar (Måns Nathanaelson), Jenny Bodén (Anna Asp) and Ayda Çetin (Elmira Arikan) – plus the welcome return of Steinar Hovland (Kristofer Hivju, Game of Thrones, Twin), now splitting his time between his kids in Oslo and his police work in Stockholm.
The new season starts as Martin’s grandson Vilhelm (Valter Skarsgård) prepares for his first day as a police trainee, and a routine call ends with the discovery of the body of a 15-year-old boy. Meanwhile, Martin’s boss/nemesis Klas Fredén (Jonas Karlsson) is in line for a promotion as the new head of the Swedish Security Service (Säpo) – but his career path hits a snag that the Beck group inadvertently gets caught up in. New mom Jenny’s home life is a wreck – and well-meaning Oskar accidentally becomes a party to it. And Josef’s hot-headedness and sense of justice lands him in potential career-ending hot water, in addition to another encounter with his incarcerated brother Tobban (Edvin Bredefeldt).
Through it all, Martin navigates a new series of increasingly puzzling murder cases and political minefields, with support from his daughter Inger (Rebecke Hemse) and his long-time neighbor Valdemar (the legendary, much-missed Ingvar Hirdwall in his final appearances before his sad death last year.)
