Location, location, location!
One of the joys of watching the supremely entertaining Perfect Murders is the fantastic French landscapes in which the titular crimes take place. The episodes are filmed in different regions of France, with each of the rotating teams of investigators having their own patch of turf – a little bit like the German Tatort in that respect! So while we still can’t travel, we can still experience the beauty of France with some of our favorite detectives – and solve some fun mysteries along the way!
Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur
Captain Agnes Berthaud (Isabelle Gélinas) and her fresh-faced sidekick Thibaud (Arthur Mazet) feature in Episodes 1, 2, 9, 10, 15 and 16 of the series. These are filmed in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region in the far southeastern corner of France. Marseille is the home base for most of these episodes. Episode 15 (“Death on the Rocks”) was filmed in and around the ski resort of SuperDévoluy in Le Dévoluy, a commune in the Hautes-Alpes department. Episodes 9 and 10 also filmed in La Ciotat.
Brittany
Inspector Delaunay (Antoine Duléry) and Laura Mizon (Elisa Ruschke) feature in Episodes 3, 4, 13 and 14, which are all filmed on location in Brittany in northwestern France. The communes of Vannes, Locmariaquer and Crac’h feature in Episodes 3 and 4, while Episodes 13 and 14 were also filmed in Plumergat, La Trinité-sur-Mer, Baden, Belz and Sainte Anne d’Auray. Episode 3 (“Dire Straits”) features scenes filmed at the Beau Soleil organic farm in Matignon, and it’s not the only French crime show to film there – does it look familiar to you?
Marseille
Superintendent Damien Roche (Philippe Caroit) and Gabrielle (Claire Borotra) feature in Episodes 5 and 6 – these are mostly filmed in Marseille, along with scenes in Martigues and Saint-Chamas, both communes northwest of the city.
La Rochelle
Julie Ferrier as Captain Louise Bonne (“Like the pear!”) and Wendy Nieto as Fatou feature in Episodes 7, 8, 17 and 18. These are filmed in La Rochelle – as evidenced by the generous drone shots throughout! Episode 18 (“Too Good To Be True”) was filmed at the La Rochelle Aquarium, a big tourist attraction and one of the largest private aquariums in Europe.
Nice
Inspector Claire Moreno (Isabel Otero) and Hubert de Montalembert (played by Hubert Rolleau) feature in Episodes 11 and 12, both of which are based in Nice, with more filming done in La Colle-sur-Loup and the amazing hilltop village of Eze.
