Set in the quiet South African town of Odendaalsrus, Cousins begins with a single decision that changes countless lives. On a hot summer day in 1966, 16-year-old André Fourie (Janru Steenkamp) is supposed to take his 12-year-old sister, Issie, and cousin, Petro, to the local swimming pool. Instead, he lets the girls go on their own and this fateful decision leads to tragedy and a decades-long effort to bring the perpetrators of Issie & Petro’s murder to justice.
The series unfolds across two timelines, beginning with the family’s devastating loss in 1966 before jumping ahead to the 1980s. André is now a detective with a reputation for being a loose cannon, while his extended family continues to bear the weight of nearly two decades of unresolved grief, suspicion, and unanswered questions. Haunted by the past, André risks both his career and the few family relationships he has left in a relentless pursuit of justice for his sister and cousin.
