Premiering September 12, 2023
Originally premiering on Austrian TV in 1994, Inspector Rex (Beta Films) was an uber-popular international hit featuring the exploits of German Shepherd police dog Rex, his partners and the rest of the gang at the Vienna Criminal Police as they work together to solve often surprisingly hard-hitting crimes in the historic and picturesque Austrian capital.
Following the departures of Brandtner and Böck, the season starts with Rex and Fritz Kunz (Martin Weinek) alone in the station, waiting for their new colleagues to arrive. Marc Hoffmann (Alexander Pschill) is the first on the scene. Hoffmann is a complete contrast to his predecessors Brandtner and Moser – a ladies’ man, yes, but more in a boyish, rom-com kind of way. He also doesn’t like carrying a gun. Niki Herzog (Elke Winkens) is the first female officer in the show – level-headed and action-oriented. She and Hoffmann also have a bit of a history – the pair had spent the night together before reporting for duty, both unaware that a) they were both police officers and b) would soon be working together with a certain infamous German Shepherd. Woof!
