Season 2 of acclaimed WWII drama Das Boot continues its exploration of espionage, survival, and moral reckoning on both sides of the war. Decorated U-boat commander Johannes von Reinhartz (Clemens, Schick, Babylon Berlin, Barcelona Crime) is sent on a covert mission to the U.S. East Coast to land saboteurs. Another U-boat is then quickly dispatched in pursuit amid growing suspicions about Reinhartz’s loyalty. A high stakes game of cat-and-mouse then plays out en route across the Atlantic as the allure of landing on American shores takes hold of the men aboard both boats.

Meanwhile, former U-612 commander Hoffmann (Rick Okon, Tatort), having narrowly survived the mutiny against his leadership, resurfaces in New York where he takes refuge with Sam Greenwood (Vincent Kartheiser, Mad Men). Hoffman is at first determined to return to Germany but then gets pulled into both NYC politics and a high-brow underworld whose loyalty lies with the Third Reich. 

Back on land in La Rochelle, Simone (Vicky Krieps, Phantom Thread) continues her quiet sabotage against the Nazi occupation alongside her former roommate Margot (Fleur Geffrier, Sea Shadows, Drops of God) who has become fully committed to the French Resistance. The more personal warfare between the occupiers and the occupied is less black & white and arguably more fraught with tension than the military battles on the high seas.
