In the darkly comic Belgian crime thriller Good People,  ordinary people are driven to extraordinary – and morally dubious – actions when a debt-ridden cop and his wife hatch a life insurance scam that spins wildly out of control. This six-episode limited series is created, written and directed by Stéphane Bergmans, Benjamin d’Aoust, and Matthieu Donck – the creative trio behind the popular MHz Choice series The Break.

Good People tells the story of Tom and Linda Leroy, a young couple in their thirties struggling with mounting debt in a small Belgian border town. Tom is a policeman and Linda runs a tanning salon, but their business woes and financial desperation lead them to concoct a life insurance scam: staging Linda’s death in a fiery car accident in nearby France in hopes of a big payout that will change their fortunes. However, every attempt to control the scheme only spirals into chaos as secrets unravel, relationships fray and unintended consequences accumulate. The series cleverly uses flashbacks and shifting perspectives to unravel what really happened the night of the accident, juxtaposing the couple’s flawed plan with the growing suspicion of the local authorities – particularly a French gendarme who senses something off about the case.

Tom is played by Lucas Meister, who also played Fabrice in two episodes of The Break; Linda is played by Bérangère McNeese (Mismatch, Murder In…) and the supporting cast includes MHz Choice favorites Dominique Pinon (Cassandre) and Corinne Masiero (Captain Marleau) in a scene-stealing cameo as the Station Master!
