Premiering June 6, 2023
On an evening like any other, as he is sitting in front of the TV with a glass of his favorite whisky in his beautiful apartment in Milan, Carlo Monterossi (Fabrizio Bentivoglio) is interrupted by the buzzing of his smart doorbell. A doorbell that he has never figured out how to operate properly. However, at the door, instead of his expected food delivery, there is a guy with a black hood over his face and a small, chrome-plated gun with the little black hole of the barrel trained right on him.
This start of Monterossi’s adventures is sparked by a date with death that he only misses by pure chance—and thanks to the heavy crystal whiskey glass he was still holding when he opened the door. This simple twist of fate is what drives him to start investigating. Sure, partly because he is scared and wants to figure out who tried to kill him, but also partly because he has reached a point where he wants to start taking stock of his life: Love is only the fading memory of a woman who upped and left him. His job as the head write of a schmaltzy reality based TV show has made him rich and even a little famous, but it is not what he thought it would be, he is ashamed of it, and he wants out. Monterossi is ironically and unhappily successful. His only solace is his beloved Bob Dylan, the only voice for his nostalgia, the only one with the right words. Oh, and he has a deep desire for justice, the same desire driving Nadia and Oscar, his two young assistants he “borrowed” from the TV show, and the cops Monterossi ends up collaborating with.
An accidental detective, driven by rage and curiosity, always balancing between ironic idleness and heart-wrenching blues, in his search for the truth, Carlo Monterossi will come up against a pair of sophisticated professional hitmen, two nomads seeking revenge, collectors and smugglers of Nazi-Fascist memorabilia, crazy cases of mistaken identity, as well as a woman with many faces and a painful past that comes back, leaving a trail of indecipherable clues.
