One of our favorite odd couples is back in a new episode of Murder by the Lake – German inspector Micha Oberländer (Matthias Koeberlin) and his Austrian partner Hannah Zeiler (Nora Waldstätten). She’s cool and aloof and harbors enough secrets to start her own intellgence agency, and Micha sees things pragmatically because it’s the only way he can. He also lives in his van because of family troubles, so neither is what you’d call a box of chocolates. They solve cases around Lake Constance, whch borders Austria, Switzerland and Germany.

Hannah and Micha may squabble like brother and sister, but they understand each other. She lives a tightly controlled existence by choice because of childhood trauma, but has learned to trust Micha. He knows that the fear of losing control rules her and hides a loving, vulnerable heart. As this episode begins, Micha drops by her place to transport her to a crime scene and finds himself quietly debriefing wth Hannah’s new boyfriend… which Hannah overhears.
