Luciano Ricceri (1940 - 2020)

The world lost a powerhouse production designer this past weekend: Luciano Ricceri. His amazing career had two distinct acts. He began as an assistant to producer Dino de Laurentiis in 1959 and moved into production design in the 1960s, working with directors like Federico Fellini and Ettore Scola. An astounding second act began when he was asked to help with the Detective Montalbano series in 1998, something that director Alberto Sironi still spoke about with wonder in 2012.

Here are some clips from our conversations with Alberto and Luciano in June 2012. Ever the team player, he was adamant about sharing credit for the success of the series with director Alberto Sironi and novelist Andrea Camilleri.

Godspeed, dear Luciano. Your wonderful eye captured Sicily and brought it to us all.
