Giusy Buscemi – best-known for her role as Marshal Cecchini’s daughter in Don Matteo – returns as determined Deputy Police Commissioner Vanina Guarrasi in Season 2 of the Italian crime drama Vanina, set against the vibrant backdrop of Catania, Sicily. After leaving Palermo’s Anti-Mafia division to escape the painful memories of her father’s murder, Vanina has found a new home in the city’s homicide squad, where she tackles complex cases with the support of a close-knit team.

There is still much fun to be had as we dive head-first into the world of relationships with Vanina and her best friend Giuli De Rosa (Dajana Roncione, Detective Montalbano), enjoy delicious Sicilian breakfasts with second-in-command Carmelo Spanò (Claudio Castrogiovanni, Mafia Only Kills in Summer) and get weird with quirky officer-in-camo Nunnari (Giulio Della Monica, The New Pope) and loveable Lo Faro (Danilo Arena, The Hunter). It’s big and brash and loud and not at all subtle – and we love it!

At the end of Season 1, Vanina’s complicated personal life remained unresolved. Her feelings for Paolo Malfitano (Giorgio Marchesi, Once Upon a Time in Vigata), the Palermo prosecutor and her former partner, continue to pull her in one direction, while her growing connection with Dr. Manfredi Monterreale (Corrado Fortuna, A Boyfriend for my Wife) offers another possibility. Meanwhile, the threat posed by her father’s killers has never entirely disappeared…

Season 2 finds Vanina facing renewed danger when Salvatore Fratta, the last surviving member of the gang that murdered her father, makes his presence felt. As she and Paolo pursue him, Vanina’s team rallies to protect her. Meanwhile, a series of baffling new murder investigations tests her instincts and determination, while old relationships and unexpected complications threaten her hard-won sense of stability.
