August on MHz Choice picks up right where July left off, sailing from the U-boat pens of Kiel across the Atlantic to New York, then looping back through the courtrooms of Bari, the canals of Trieste, and a decades-old cold case in South Africa.

The month’s headline event is the long-promised U.S. premiere of Das Boot Season 2, arriving August 4 exclusively on MHz Choice. Season 1 introduced Klaus Hoffmann’s inexperienced U-boat crew and the parallel story of a young German woman torn between the Gestapo and the French Resistance; Season 2 raises the stakes by sending the action across two continents, as Klaus lands in New York and has to navigate an unfamiliar country and a complicated new relationship while the war closes in back home. The first two episodes drop August 4, with the remaining installments premiering weekly after that, so this is a season to settle in with rather than binge in a weekend.

Sophie Cross Season 2 also arrives August 4, continuing the story of the sharp-eyed French detective (Alexia Barlier) whose background as a lawyer keeps unraveling the secrets her small seaside precinct would rather keep buried.

The other big event of the month belongs to Tatort: Borowski. Season 7 marks the swan song for Klaus Borowski (Axel Milberg), the socially awkward, quietly brilliant Kiel detective who’s been solving crimes — and stumbling through his personal life — since 2003. Although we’re saying good-bye to Borowski, Tatort fans will be happy to know that MHz Choice will be premiering a new episode of Tatort every single week for the rest of the year, so there’s no shortage the wider Tatort universe to look forward to as summer turns to fall.

Fans of true crime with real historical weight should make room for Cousins, a haunting South African drama which tracks the nearly two-decade fight to bring the killers of two young cousins to justice after a 1966 double murder in the Free State. It’s based on a true story, and it doesn’t rush the long, difficult road to justice.

And after a long wait, La Porta Rossa Season 3 finally reaches MHz Choice on August 25. The Italian supernatural crime thriller follows Trieste cop Leonardo Cagliostro, who dies in the opening moments of the series but stays behind to solve his own murder and protect the people he loves. It’s one of the most requested titles among MHz Choice’s Italian mystery fans, and the wait is finally over.

Rounding out the month: Cassandre returns for an eighth season of Alpine mysteries in Annecy, and The Cases of Attorney Guerrieri arrives August 18, bringing back MHz Choice favorite Alessandro Gassmann as a gifted criminal defense lawyer working the courts of Bari.
