Season 15 continues with the penultimate episode “Murder In… The Regulus Caves”, which centers on a compelling investigative duo played by Shemss Audat (also seen in Season 7 Episode 4 “Murder In Aquitaine”, Season 8 Episode 4 “Murder In Castellane” and Season 13 Episode 1 “Murder In Cassis”) and Antoine Hamel (Season 9 Episode 3 “Murder In Pont l’Évêque” and Season 12 Episode 13 “Murder In Dinard”. Audat plays Captain Grâce Talbi, a determined gendarmerie officer, while Hamel is Alex Mercier, a former policeman turned rare-book expert – and her complicated former lover! Their uneasy reunion drives the drama, ably supported by Philippe Caroit (another veteran of multiple Murder In… episodes) who rounds out the cast as a figure tied to the victim.
The story begins when a man is found stabbed near the caves, with an old book placed beside his body. Grâce quickly uncovers eerie parallels to an unsolved murder from ten years earlier involving a teenage girl killed in the same location. As past and present intertwine, she enlists Alex, who originally worked the cold case. Their investigation blends police procedural with literary clues and buried personal history, as conflicting memories and unresolved emotions complicate the search for truth…
The Regulus Caves of the title are, in French, the “Grottes du Régulus” – troglodytic caves carved into limestone cliffs overlooking the Gironde estuary. Filming took place in Charente-Maritime, including Rochefort and Meschers-sur-Gironde, which grounds the mystery in a distinctly Atlantic coastal landscape. Historically, the caves have served as dwellings and lookout points, their layered past and dramatic seaside location lending the story a moody, almost timeless atmosphere where history and crime converge.
