Christian Kohlund returns as Thomas Borchert, Zurich’s most outspoken unlicensed defender who, together with his partner Dominique Kuster (Ine Paule Klink), seeks justice for the innocent in Zurich – and beyond! (Later this season the gang ventures outside their home city into the icy Swiss Alps!)
But first thing’s first. In “Borchert and the Murder in a Taxi”, our charismatic title hero uncovers the dirty machinations of the rich and influential in order to free his client who is suspected of murder. Together with his partner Dominique and the dashing police captain Furrer (Pierre Kiwitt), the “lawyer without a license” sets out to bring uncomfortable truths to light, which also gets his old friend Reto (Dominque’s father, played by Robert Hunger-Bühler) on the scene. And yes, Borchert’s best friend/taxi driver Beat Bürki (Andrea Zogg) plays a key role in the season premiere as well!
Like Brock in Anatomy of Evil, Thomas Borchert is a rich, complex and imminently flawed character – and that’s what makes him captivating to watch. But what keeps him ticking? Christian Kohlund explains: “In his old age, Borchert is so obsessed with solving open cases and fighting for justice that he doesn’t think about himself. He has nothing left to lose, he has lived his life. And when he puts himself in danger, he is no longer afraid and does what has to be done.”
