Can we just say how much we love The Weissensee Saga? Case in point is this extraordinarily tender scene (see clip below) between the psychologically fragile Julia and Martin, her knight in striped green swim trunks. Having recently emerged from six horrific years in an East German prison, Julia is sure of nothing –herself, Martin or the world as a whole. In this scene, Martin brings Julia to the titular Weisser See (White Lake) for a swim, hoping it may reconnect Julia with her old self. Sensing her hesitance, without saying a word, Martin gently coaxes Julia into the water showing us just how deeply he cares for her and how completely she trusts him. It’s a quiet, powerful and deeply moving scene.
We love this series and we love Julia and Martin (despite his questionable choice in swimwear).
